Reflective prompts: what your team would miss most about you, what you have learned across your career, and what you want next. Why Apple, and how you handle a pointed challenge in the room (e.g. being told you lack business sense) without getting defensive. A time you learned from not asking for advice early enough. A task-reprioritization story: what changed, who was affected, and how you communicated the change. A time you influenced others to reprioritize their work. How you work day to day, what values guide that work style, and how you collaborate with teammates. A résumé project deep-dive that defends every improvement metric, including the exact percentage change and how it was measured. For engineering managers, how you evaluate team members and calibrate performance. A difficult colleague or partner relationship: what made communication hard and how you changed the working dynamic. Notes Apple HM screens often act as fit interviews for a specific team rather than generic culture screens. Your story should make the team context legible: product goal, stakeholder map, technical constraint, metric, and trade-off. Use STAR, but keep the action and result technical enough that an engineering manager can calibrate scope. Avoid stories that only show status reporting; show a decision you owned. Preparation Write four STAR stories: conflict, prioritization, resource constraint, and ambiguous stakeholder request. Attach one measurable outcome to each story. Prepare a 90-second project deep-dive and a 5-minute version for follow-up probing. Practice answering interruption gracefully; some Apple interviewers move on once they have enough signal.
